A little Q&A with the designer:
Q. What is your design inspiration?
I am very inspired by the high-fashion styles of the past. Everything from this over-the top ornamentation of Marie Antoinette to the early 1920's and the flapper (oh how I love fringe, short dresses and LONG necklaces!) to the screen goddesses of the 1950's like Ava Gardner and Elizabeth Taylor. Taking inspiration from these styles and reinterpreting with a modern touch is what I love most.
Q. Tell me two little known facts about you:
I pride myself in knowing how to open "difficult" food (how to properly crack open crab legs; how to get the fruit out of a mango; how to skin a kiwi; etc). I was getting a doctorate in Political Economy before I dropped out to start my accessory company.
Q. Describe your personal style: You'll find me in either jeans + a tee-shirt or 50's rockabilly dresses.
Q. What is your favorite article of clothing? My blue hair! ;)
Q. Favorite vacation spot:
Anywhere (skiing, at the beach, etc) as long as I'm with my husband and two kiddos!
Q. When did you know that you were going to design bridal?
When I was in undergrad a girlfriend of mine got married and asked me to make her pair of shorty gloves with bows. I'd been sewing my whole life, but the night of her wedding I received so many compliments on the gloves that I thought "Hummm...I love glamour and I love sewing...I wonder if this could be a career?". It took 4 more years in academia before I decided it was as time to take the "road less traveled". It's been 14 years of all-nighters, joy, terror, elation, tears, sweat and adrenaline rushes...but I still love it every day!!
Q. What is the last great book that you read?
The Great Game of Business by Jack Stack. If you own a business this is a MUST read! (See? I'm an econ geek!)
Q. Any advice for brides? Only one: be yourself!
