SAN FRANCISCO THE PRINCESS DIARIES SCENES AS WEDDING DRESS DESIGNERS

november 2021

listen up sacramento babes, we’ve got a little secret to share with you. before we became bay area bridal experts we were… the princess diaries super fans. okay, now you’re either shouting samesies or laughing at our regal rom-com obsession. giggle all you want, but the fact that the princess of genovia practically had her first foot-popping kiss in our own backyard, meant everything to our love-obsessed teenage hearts. just the thought of mia’s beach party invite had us singing ‘catch a falling star’ on repeat… or maybe mandy moore’s rendition of stupid cupid depending on the day's mood. so scroll below to find classic san francisco spots that appeared in this darling disney film and wedding dress designers that bring a bit of genovia glamour to the golden city.

MUSEE MECANIQUE IN MADE WITH LOVE

head down to fisherman’s wharf in san francisco, california to find the infamous penny arcade spot where queen clarice could be found with a corn dog in hand. the arm wrestling scene from the princess diaries was (and still is) a favorite of ours. as you know, we’re always down for a good time and these royals ditching etiquette lessons for a day spent exploring the embarcadero looks like a damn good time to us.

when we think of a sacramento wedding dress designer that we could picture letting loose near the san francisco shoreline, made with love instantly comes to mind. known for their effortlessly fun bridal style and focus on cool comfort, they’re the perfect contender for a magical afternoon at musée mécanique. whether you’re arm wrestling in archie by made with love or popping into a photo booth in made with love’s penny, pier 45 is a prime princess hotspot.

MARINA DISTRICT IN MADI LANE

now that we’ve seen san francisco’s eastern shoreline it’s time to head north. the marina district is home to lively bars, marina green, and last but not least the scene where mia and lily makeup after a particularly intense argument. we recall this rooftop basketball court having a pretty badass view of san francisco bay homes and we’re all about an epic sf outlook.

we think madi lane might just be the perfect bridal designer to match the laid back vibes of mia and lily’s rooftop reconciliation. so many madi lane wedding dresses are inspired by nature and give off romantic and whimsical bride vibes. with stunning peeps of san francisco even on a cloudy day, we can see madi lane gowns gliding across this green basketball court with utter ease… that is unless there's a slippery bleacher bench of course.

RUSSIAN HILL IN RUE DE SEINE

cable cars and crooked lombard street, russian hill is a san francisco staple no doubt. princess mia and queen clarice’s russian hill experience was slightly stressful due to mia accidentally running her beloved mustang into a trolley car, but with no injuries and an honorable knighting, this scene ends happily ever after.

it took us a second to think of a sacramento wedding dress collection that could stand beside this neighborhood’s victorian architecture and romantic charm without getting lost, but we have a feeling rue de seine is up to the test. the bold bohemian vibes of rue de seine seem to go hand in hand with the hip urban enchantment of this cool san francisco community. from the intricate lace work in rue de seine's wedding dresses to the complex allure of lombard’s crooked street, these two might just be the perfect pair… and we’re not talking genovia’s official national fruit.

ATHENS STREET IN ALYSSA KRISTIN

the thermopolis household, a converted old san francisco firehouse, seemed like a dream home to us at the time of the princess diaries’ grand debut on the big screen. we wanted nothing more than to pop paint-filled balloons in helen’s free-spirited art studio or to storm off and shut our smiley face “the tower” door… am i the drama?

like any true artist, a blank canvas is always at hand and this reigns true when pairing a wedding dress designer for this artistic abode. we can think of none other than crepe wedding dress queen, alyssa kristin, to take on this indie pad. alyssa kristin designs simple wedding dresses that stand out with their crisp look and dramatic sheath silhouettes. these bridal gowns can be dressed down (mia would definitely wear doc martens) or up depending on the style you’re going for.
